Cloves (Lavang)

Clove is an unopened flower bud growing on a tree which belongs to the same family as guavas. Clove buds possess intense fragrance and a burning taste in its raw form. 
 
These aromatic flower buds are dried and commonly used in biryanis, pickles, salads and garam masalas. They have deep brown colour, powerful aroma which is warm, pungent, strongly sweet and slightly astringent. In India it is used in almost all spicy rich dishes. 
 
Cloves grow well in the hilly terrain of the Western Ghats at higher altitudes. This champion spice is well known for its host of medicinal values.
 
Packed with antioxidants, anti-bacterial properties and anti-inflammatory properties, it is used to releive pain from sore gums and improve overall dental health. Cloves are aphrodisiac and good for digestive heath.
